"Talking about Taichung" – Huayu Creative Essay and Video Competition

Important Dates and Qualifications

  • Submission Period: May 15 (Fri) to June 30 (Tue)
  • Eligibility: International students of colleges and universities in the central region of Taiwan.
  • Result Announcement: July 8 (Wed)
  • Status Restrictions:This is a CFL (Chinese as a Foreign Language) competition. International students whose official language is Mandarin or who have studied Mandarin for more than 2 years are not eligible to participate.
  • Note: Do not plagiarize or use any AI-generated materials. Violators will be disqualified.

Competition Category Specifications

1. Creative Essay

  • Individual competition. Only one entry per person is allowed.
  • Levels: Divided into A Level (Beginner) (TOCFL score 355+ recommended) and B Level (Advanced) (TOCFL score 500+ recommended).
  • Word Count: Group A: 100-120 words / Group B: 150-180 words.
  • Format: WORD or PDF file.
  • Naming: School + Name.
  • Vocabulary Requirement: The following designated vocabulary and grammar must be used in the essay:
  1. A Level (Beginner) — 的 (possessive), 在, V過, 那/哪, Number+Measure word, V到, (不)喜歡, 很, 帶, 想 (Total of 10 items; must use at least 5).
  2. B Level (Advanced) — 多久, 非常, 覺得, 還是, V著, 因為…所以, 又…又, 從…到, 離, 有(一)點Vs, 好/難+V, 不但…還/也, 一邊…一邊, 地, 附近, 經過, 特別, 雖然 (Total of 18 items; must use at least 10).

2. Creative Video

  • Entries can be individual or group. Each person is limited to one group and one theme.
  • Category: Divided into Taichung Group and Asia University Group. Participants must shoot and edit a video introducing in Mandarin famous attractions in Taichung or Asia University.
  • Video Specs: Vertical 1080P video (1080x1920), size not exceeding 300MB, must include bilingual (Chinese/English) subtitles.
  • Duration: 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
  • File Naming: Category_School_Name (or Group Name).
  • Note: Please upload the video to your Google Drive and enable public access/sharing permissions before providing the link.

Gratuitous Authorization Clause

Winners shall agree to authorize the organizer (Asia University Chinese Language Center) to use their entries for promotion and educational purposes on relevant websites, MOOCs platforms, or social media channels without limitation on frequency, period, or region.
