course introduction

We offer Chinese preliminary courses to international students enrolled in “the International Foundation Program” to better prepare their Chinese proficiency, particularly Listening and Reading skills, to reach CEFR A2 level.  When their Chinese can satisfy communicative purposes on campus, they will enter their intended bachelor programs as freshmen and take same courses with their Taiwanese classmates.

The curriculum is designed in accordance to the regulations of the project of cultivating young overseas students needed by the seven major industries launched by the Ministry of Education.  This series of preliminary Chinese courses requires 360 hours of language training in one semester and 720 hours in one academic year.  The Chinese Center has planned 15 hours of classes each week for those international students who have just arrived in Taiwan for their next stage of academic study.
Students will take courses “Chinese I - Novice” and “Life and Culture in Taiwan I” in the first semester.  In the second semester, based on their performance, they will take course “Chinese II – Beginner” or “Chinese III – Basic” and “Life and Culture in Taiwan II.”  For students whose Chinese proficiency has reached CEFR B1, they may take “Chinese IV – Intermediate” course.  If students in “the International Foundation Program” fall behind in learning Chinese, we offer intensive programs in the evening and assign TAs for consultation.
